Weekend Round Up

A great weekend of basketball for the club with 7 out of 8 wins across all age groups. It started off on Friday night with a home league game for the men’s Pumas team in Division 2 securing a 10 point victory over Team LT, winning 79-69, the pumas were in control in most of the game and even stretched it out to a 24 point lead at one point but the dogged Team LT kept coming back and some impressive outside shooting along with poor decision making saw it finishing close than perhaps it should have.

Saturday saw the return of the RDL games for U17 Boys and U18 Girls with both securing victory in all of 4 of the matches the boys worked hard whilst giving their large squad valuable experience on court against Beacon and Mackie.  The girls found their confidence after slow start to the season with some impressive tough defence and some nice ball movement and rotation to create problems for both Banchory and ISA.

Sunday proved to be no day of rest for the U16 National Development League squad (most of whom had played in the two RDL games the day before) as they had a trip to Perth to face South Lanarkshire Colliers, they finally came out on top to go an impressive 6-0 in this seasons NDL.

The action then turned to Div 1 local league clash for the Panthers Senior men’s team against the always difficult Beacon Grizzlies 1st team. Panthers came out at a blistering pace and a combination of outside shooting and some good counter attacking work saw a 21-9 score at the end of the first quarter and they would stay in front for the remainder of the game. Beacon did push them all the way bringing the game back to a single digit difference at one point and where in past games they might have let that become a problem, Panthers saw the game out well and took the victory 94-77.

The weekend finished with the Stonehaven Jaguars playing in a Div 2 league game against current league leaders Beacon Grizzlies 2nd team. Unfortunately the difference in experience and strength was too much and the jags fell to 37-88 defeat.
